Dublin Square Irish Pub & Grill – Gaslamp

Drinks at Dublin Square Irish Pub & Grill in the Gaslamp

My husband and I tend to drink beer when we go out, but the other night we decided to branch out! We walked all over the Gaslamp looking for a unique place to grab a drink, but you know how it is, it’s mostly loud bars, same vibe, and super crowded. That was until we went on 4th avenue and came across Dublin Square Irish Pub & Grill. You can’t miss it; it literally looks like Ireland landed in San Diego. The unique architecture and attention to details is fabulous.  A lot of the décor was shipped across the Atlantic ocean for this establishment giving us a piece of Dublin to enjoy. In fact this pub is an exact replica of a bar in Ireland called Tyrans.

Dublin Square Irish Pub & Grill is the perfect place to go to ‘getaway’. The dimmed lighting, dark wood and Irish décor takes your focus away from the chaos of the gaslamp that’s just feet away. Irish music plays in the background and all the servers are dressed in kilts adding to the Irish theme. This is a fun place for a nice dinner, birthday, date, any occasion!

The Lowdown:

Adam and I ate dinner before we arrived here, so we only enjoyed drinks. I can tell you though; the smell of Irish delights was tempting us to eat dinner once again! I ordered whiskey with ginger as I was told by the server this was a traditional drink, yet ‘female’ friendly for someone who doesn’t typically drink whiskey. My husband Adam really went with something different and ordered a ‘Strongbow Cider’, a crisp imported cider from the UK that is believed to deliver maximum refreshment in an authentic, traditional English recipe.

While Adam and I were waiting for our drinks we couldn’t help but get lost in the restaurants décor and daydream about one day visiting Ireland. That’s how amazing the inside of this restaurant is, you can literally get lost and for a few moments forget you’re in San Diego! (Not that you want to, but everyone could use a vacation!).  The server brought us our drinks and to my surprise Adams cider looked like a beer. I’m not sure what I was picturing, but it reminded me of a flat beer.  Don’t let the appearance fool you though, the cider was delicious, perfect for a fall evening. A great substitute for your typical beverage and even better for a night of just hanging out and enjoying good company! As for my whiskey and ginger, it was okay. This drink reminded me exactly of a rum and coke, I was hoping to taste a little more authenticity. I wanted to taste Ireland just like I was feeling it with the vibe of the restaurant. Adam and I will definitely be going back to enjoy the live music and more traditional Irish beverages. This was a great place and I was very impressed with the décor, service was good, and the food smelt absolutely delicious… next time we have to eat!
