Sher E Punjab is an Indian restaurant in Sorrento Valley near the giant Qualcomm corporate buildings off of Mira Mesa Blvd. It’s a very popular lunch destination for many corporate employees in the area. I’ve eaten here a half dozen times and always eager to come back for more, especially for the Chicken Tikka Masala! I can honestly say Sher E Punjab is one of my best experiences with Indian food in recent times. Their food is high quality, hot and always fresh.

During the week they run lunch specials between $5.99 – $6.99. But the best deal is the dinner buffet they run on Fridays and Saturdays between 6pm-9pm and Saturday Lunch buffet between 11am-3pm for $8.99. Buffet included appetizers, fruit salad, green salad, basmati rice, chicken and lamb curries, vegetable curries, naan and dessert.

The Lowdown

This review is for the Lunch Special #4, includes 2 meat, 1 veggie, rice, salad, raita yogurt sauce and naan bread. I chose the Chicken Tikka Masala, Spicy Chicken Curry and Yellow Daal on this trip.

The Chicken Tikka Masala has a creamy tomato sauce base, a bit of sweetness, plenty of spices but virtually no heat. This is a popular dish for a reason, it’s just simply awesome. The Spicy Chicken Curry has almost no sweetness compared to the Chicken Tikka Masala, but the stewed tomato is very prominent, a bit more heat and a lighter, thinner sauce. Yellow Daal has a very mild flavor of pea, lentils, cilantro and onion. A subtle flavor and texture of a pureed bean/pea soup. The Samosa filling includes potatoes, peas and spices wrapped in a pastry dough sheet and then fried. The outside is crispy, the inside is warm and just how you would expect a potato/pea filling. Raita is like a slightly watered down yogurt with a very tiny amount of spice, almost unnoticeable. The basmati rice has a great fragrance and an almost floral flavor (although very subtle). The Naan bread is baked fresh in a tandoor oven and very good, don’t forget to get the mint sauce for your naan. Really good stuff!
