San Diego Public Market – New Farmer’s Market

San Diego Public Market

The next time you’re around downtown on a Wednesday or Sunday, head on over to the new San Diego Public Market located in Barrio Logan. The best part about this farmer’s market is the fact that it’s really different. If you’ve been to 2 or more farmers markets around town you will start to recognize that many of them have a good amount of the same weekly vendors. This 21,000 square foot facility has more of a warehouse feel than your traditional street corner market. The Public Market building provides ample space for a variety of new vendors.

We were excited to see Suzie’s Farm, who supplies produce to one of our favorite cafes; Cafe Chloe. In fact, we purchased some of their wonderful Sungold tomatoes after we had tasted them in our salads the week before at Cafe Chloe. They were sweet and juicy!

Mikolich Family Honey

We did find a familiar face in the Mikolich Family Honey stand. We first fell in love with their unique flavors of high grade, raw honey at the Pacific Beach Tuesday Farmers’ Market. This company is family owned and operated. They are so friendly, and will let you try their honey till your heart’s content. It’s hard to choose your favorite flavor because they are all so different, and equally yummy. We decided on 2 local honeys from Temecula; the Buckwheat, and the Orange Blossom. These aren’t your average honey bears. This honey is rich and concentrated, and I love that it’s local!

As you make your way around the San Diego Public Market you will notice that most of the produce is in one side of the building and in the other half you will find some amazing food stands serving up some unique cuisine, like Moroccan, Indian, and Mediterranean. Fresh Tamales, and amazing fruit cups filled with succulent mango, crisp cucumber, and sweet watermelon topped with lime and chili were among my favorite treats there. Trust me …you want to go to this farmers Market hungry! Makes my mouth water just thinking about how good that fruit was, and how amazing all the food smelled.

The Holistic Science Co.

Of course, being a girl and someone who loves skincare, I was super excited to see a new holistic skincare company that I had never heard of. The Holistic Science Co., which was staffed by a younger girl who helped me, and she was so nice and helpful. Their body creams were luxuriously soft. Everything smelled heavenly! I could have easily bought one of everything , but ended up going home with a mint facial tonic spray; perfect for a hot day. I will definitely be back to snatch up some of that amazing body cream, and lip balm.

Overall, the San Diego Public Market is unique and definitely worth a visit if only to see some new vendors. I’m excited to see how this market will grow. I would love to see some Italian vendors in there with fresh pasta and take home sauces! Parking was easy, which is a huge plus in my book. I think this is a great addition for the Barrio Logan and Downtown area. My hopes are that the market will bring neighbors together and provide people with healthier food while supporting local business.
