Boddingtons Pub Ale @ Princess British Pub & Grille

Princess British Pub & Grille

My cousin’s came in from Colorado so we decided to walk over to Little Italy and grab a drink. We decided Princess Pub would be the spot to check out because of its casual and entertaining environment. We sat on the outside patio facing the street of Little Italy and it was beautiful. Very refreshing, relaxing, and good people watching. The only down side to sitting outside are other tables nearby smoking cigarettes. Princess Pub is San Diego’s original British Pub, established in 1984. Like many British pubs it shows Rugby, Soccer, and other sports. In specializes in fine European Ales, Ciders, and Local Craft Beers as well as a full food menu with popular British dishes… This pub prides itself on its fish & Chips!

A Beer Like No Other

If you’ve read my reviews you know I’m very familiar with craft beer so this time my cousins introduced me to a new kind of beer.  Boddingtons Pub Ale was our choice of beverage. I would’ve never thought to order this but they were raving about how delicious it was, so why not!

Boddingtons Pub Ale reminded me of a root beer float…I know what you’re thinking, Ice cream beer gross! Well don’t worry, there is no ice cream in it, however, it does consist of a very smooth and creamy texture. Unlike most beers, Boddingtons Pub Ale is made from English malts and nitrogen, therefore, there’s limited carbonation contributing to its smooth and super creamy taste (similar to a cask pour). This beer is considered a light and balanced beer with a honey and butterscotch twist to it, even smelling like butter.  It settles into a nice honey colored liquid with an inch or so of foamy white head. The best way to enjoy this beer is slightly chilled!

Boddingtons Pub Ale was good, but it reminded me too much of a root beer float, I had a hard time getting past the creamy and milky feeling! Regardless, it was worth checking out and went down extremely smooth.  I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven’t. If you can’t make it to the Princess Pub, you can also purchase a 4-pack at the market.
