Happy Hour @ The Beer Company – Restaurant & Brewery

The Beer Company Happy Hour Review

Adam and I went to ‘The Beer Company’ just before we left for Denver to attend The Great American Beer Festival. We chose to go here because we knew they would be at the festival and we wanted to support one of our local breweries! We enjoyed a great happy hour that goes from 2:00pm-6:00pm daily, with select appetizers at discounted prices, $3 house pints & wines, and $5 house martinis. The selection of house pints is large, so don’t assume you’ll be drinking Bud Light!

In lieu of the season I enjoyed their pumpkin ale. It was perfect for a chilly fall evening with aromas of hops, barley, nutmeg, pumpkin, and a hint of cinnamon. I’m a sucker for pumpkin beers and this was a good one. Unlike many pumpkin beers though, this one was stronger, you could definitely smell and taste the hops! For those who might not know what I’m talking about, Hops are added to beer often used as a spice. They have a floral and citrus taste, which can either dominate a beer or sometimes even balance the sweetness of a beer. In this case I felt the hops dominated the pumpkin beer, but as someone who enjoys a hoppy beer I was happy!

As I mentioned before, The Beer Company also attended The 2012 Great American Beer Festival in Denver, where they won Gold for their ‘Manhattan Project’ in the “Wood and Barrel Aged Strong Beer” category. Adam and I also attended this festival, which had hundreds of breweries from across the country competing for a variety of categories so it’s awesome that The Beer Company was recognized for their fine brewing.

The Lowdown:

The Beer Company is a great place to catch the game with literally a T.V view from every seat. The bar is huge, located in the center of the restaurant and is made up of granite counters, copper, and what appears to be a dark mahogany wood. There were orange twinkle lights around the bar really adding to the warm feeling and embracing the Halloween season, which was nice considering it’s been so warm in San Diego. The beer taps are copper which is unique and adds a lot of character for the bar, it sort of made me feel like I was in the olden days ordering a beer from a saloon (not as cool, but gave me that vibe). Adam and I enjoyed happy hour while watching a baseball game there, which was fun because of the clientele.

The restaurant is located on Broadway in downtown so it attracts businessmen, college students, and a variety of other people from the area. If you’re into people watching I’d definitely recommend swinging by, grabbing a beer, and sit back to enjoy. Whether the entertainment is on TV, with your friend, or staring out the windows, you’ll have a good time at The Beer Company. This is a great restaurant & brewery for watching games, drinking beer, and people watching! Try the variety of beers they offer and while you’re there ask for a sample of their winning beer ‘Manhattan Project’… It’s not everyday you taste a gold metal winning beer!
